Annual Night Ride to Stonehenge, by D. Saunders (Touring Secretary). The weather seems to have been pretty much OK this year, nor were there any mechanical issues (I detect a note of disappointment!). They did have an encounter witha grumpy cafe owner in Amesbury.

Racing Results

The Club ’50’ on June 21st was won by Colin Turner, continuing his run of form, with 2:15:53 and a comfortable margin over second placed Ken Dopson. Seven riders finished, with one DNS and two DNF. 

On 1st July, the Junior ’10’ was won by L. Chapman, presumably the same Len Chapman who took 4th place in the Club ’50’, in 25:49. The vitality of the club is indicated by the fact they could actually put on a Junior time trial (my present club couldn’t!) - there were eight riders who finished, with three riding private time trials (presumably they weren’t juniors?), and one lady.

There’s a note clarifying the business of riders going off course (alluded to in Issue 11), and thanks to Jim Farrell’s friend on a motorbike who made general assistance of an unspecified nature!

Colin Turner now holds the club ’25’ record with 1:02:04, in winning the inter-club event with Herige CC and ensuring a Northwood victory.

More Racing Results

The Club ’30’ had less than ideal conditions (cold wet mist), but Colin Turner won the event with 1:17:54, leading home the usual suspects. 10 riders entered and started, only one DNF.

In the club track chamionship, nine riders competed at the Slough track and Tony Standing won overall. Points were accumulated through several events: 440yard scratch sprint; 880 yards flying start time trial, and a 5 mile scratch race. Tony was a last minute entry on a borrowed bike, as he was completing his National Service.

More Racing Results

The Norlond Combine ’12’ incorporated the Club 12h Championship. The winner of the club championship was Rodney Bridge, who covered 209 miles and 1074 yards. Alan Stratman came second (207 miles 284 yards) and Roy Turner third with 199  miles and 1064 yards. Colin Turner suffered three punctures and retired as did Ken Dopson, though for unspecified reasons.

The RTTC have written to clubs with a warning about ‘heads down’ riding, which leads to accidents - disqualification and suspension being the ultimate sanction. The RTTC seem to have written to clubs quite frequently!
