NORTHWOOD WHEELERS' DINNER

President and founder of Northwood Wheelers, Mr J. Sharpe, travelled from Bridge End, Wales, where he is now living, to be with club members at the fifth annual dinner and proze presentation at the Rayners Hotel, Rayners Lane on Friday.

The dinner broke all records with an attendance of 105, the previous best being only 82. The club was founded in 1948 and has 50 members of which only 6 come from Northwood, the remainder living in Rickmansworth, Watford, Harrow, and the Ruislip district. All ten lady members attended.

A welcome change from the usual long speeches at sports dinners was the 3-minute time limit imposed on club members. Visitors were given a little longer. Toast to the club was made by Mr J. Davis, President of the South Ruislip Cycling Club, who referred to the two clubs as "twins".

Replying, the Press Secretary and Editor of the Club magazine "The Wheel", Mr B. Harvey, said that the racing events had been well supported. Although the club's social life had not been very lively during the year the committe had worked well under difficulties, the biggest being the losing of good committee members. These gaps had now been well filled.

Main awards presented during the evening were: Twiddlers Trophy, Last Chance 25 mile, Brian Major; Crookes Trophy, 25 mile championship, Roger Bingham; Best All Rounder Trophy and Track Championship, Alan Stratman, who is club champion.
